Stem stands for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. STEM is an interdisciplinary and applied approach that is
coupled with hands-on, problem-based learning. It primarily focuses on the areas of
science, technology, engineering, and math education because these skills and
knowledge in each area are essential for student success. These
fields are also deeply intertwined in the real world and in how students learn most
effectively. Stem is implemented during kindergarten and is maintained through
12th grade.

Art and Design are poised to transform our economy in the 21st century just as science and technology did in the last century. STEAM is a movement created by the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and widely adopted by institutions, corporations and individuals worldwide. The main objective of STEAM is to incorporate art into the STEM program.
