Discourse Elements
Academic discourse is the text structure for many subjects which relies on vocabulary and prompts. In this case many also rely on context clues to understand parts of the text. Such as, vocabulary as sum, or product in math which prompt you to understand what is being asked which is the numbers added or multiplied together. The discourse elements are the many pieces to the puzzle of the text that come together to create larger pieces of text structure.
Assess: To judge the value of a subject critically
Fabricate: construct or manufacture (something, especially an industrial product), especially from prepared components
Interpret: To explain the meaning of something, to make it clear and explicit, and to evaluate it in terms of your own knowledge.
Review: To survey and critically examine a subject.
Summarize: To make a concise account of the main ideas of a subject or argument, omitting explanatory details and examples.

The major scientific text structure is a lab report it is a combination of vocabulary, prompts , and contextual information. Lab reports are long detailed text structures containing a hypothesis, materials list, discussion, experiments, and conclusions. When righting one you must use the academic vocabulary correctly and in the right context for it to make sense. Therefore, to make an academically correct and accepted lab report you must be proficient and understand the vocabulary and information. The lab reports will not only consists of numbers and other vocabulary specific to science but it may also encompass units of measurement such as, feet, pounds, kilograms and hertz. This makes it a challenge for people not fluent in science sometimes which is why they must learn to look for key vocabulary words, prompts, and context clues to identify what is happening.
